Today, we are blessed with a ‘Blue Moon’, a rare event that occurs whenever two full moons appear in the night sky during the same month. It is at this time that we can tap into a very special lunar nature and become empowered more than ever before. I highly recommend giving this lunar phase some attention, as we will not see another Blue Moon until January 2, 2018. This installment of The Goddess Almanac will be entirely devoted to this important moon, as I will share with you some very ancient and wonderful ways to work with its essence and blessings. It’s also time to receive your Lunar Goddess Calendar for August. You can download it here:

A full moon occurs when the sun, earth and moon perfectly align—and appear in that very specific order, which allows the sun’s light to shine directly upon the moon. This is a time when lunar essence is at its most concentrated, is most potent, most intense and when the most powerful rituals, prayers and invocations can be performed.

Whenever we are aligned with the natural energies of nature, our own energies become mingled, combined and join together, resulting in a force that is stronger than it would be on its own. This kind of alignment with the moon gives us an extra surge of power, allowing all of our magical, lunar workings to become amplified and intensified.

Full moon essence is highly charged, and often brings us into deep, intense connection with our emotions, sensitivities, feelings, moods and also our inner-being, and inner-self. The full moon shines light into the darkest corners of our nature, the deepest depths of our psyche and into the farthest places of our heart. The full moon is also a time—like the dark moon, when everything comes floating—or screeching to an energetic standstill, and we find that we may be standing at an important threshold with an opportunity to either turn back in order to learn more, and experience more…or boldly step through to reinvent, refresh, renew and begin the task again. Expect all of this intensity, emotionality and opportunity to be quite amplified during the days that lead up to the Blue Moon, and the days that follow it.

We began this month with a full moon in Capricorn, which brought in much change, order and transformation, and we complete this month with the Blue Moon in Aquarius, which brings to us an extremely fortuitous opportunity—and a surge of Blue Moon power to follow through with the profound changes that began just 30 days ago. Aquarius brings with her an extremely powerful humanitarian aspect, with much focus on self-improvement, freedom and independence. As an Aquarius myself, I can tell you that it feels as if my middle name should be ‘Free’, because the concept is so deeply, intrinsically part of my nature. If I do not feel free, I feel as if I am withering, and dying. Someone once asked me what exactly this Aquarian freedom was, and while I could not give them a specific description, I did tell them that all I know is when I do not feel free I am miserable.

So, what does this Blue Moon in Aquarius really mean for us? It signifies that now is time to take control and reclaim your personal power from situations, relationships and areas of your life where you may have given it away—or where it may have been taken from you. This moon is about to illuminate areas from the past that urgently need focusing on in order to finally heal. All of this will be made clear, will be brought to your attention and during this Blue Moon you will not be able to look away. Instead you may find that you are intensely focused upon it and deeply interested in healing it. With all of my heart, I encourage you to see this lunar phase as an opportunity for growth and transformation, rather than being fearful and afraid of it. Allow the light of the Blue/Full Moon to cleanse and clear away debris from the past, allow it to infuse with you its blessing.

The moment the full moon occurs, the Lunar Goddess hovers elegantly over the portal of increase and decrease, and just as the full moon begins to wane, she begins her descent towards decrease and the dark moon. During this descent, you may find that as the moon ‘visits’ with the signs of Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer and Leo that you are still experiencing her heightened energy as the Blue Moon, but in a way that feels like you are ‘winding down’. Each of the zodiacal signs brings to us a special energy, and each one infuses the moon with its nature. Use the list below to keep track of which signs will be influencing your Blue Moon workings. I’ve also included some actions steps to take during each sign.

There is an old folkloric tradition that suggests that the ten days following the appearance of the full Moon is a time of very special magic, blessing and essence, and it is called ‘The 10 Days of The Full Moon’. I am going to be making some Blue Moonwater on the first day, and then drinking a few sips on each of the nine days afterwards to amplify and support my journey with this moon…and I may even add a few drops into my bathwater, too. Here is a recipe so you can make your own moonwater:

What you will need:

·      an abalone shell, or other decorative, special vessel

·      a glass jar or bottle

·      spring or purified water

·      access to the Blue Moon’s light

What you will do:

·      pour some water into the abalone shell (or other vessel)

·      place directly in the Blue Moon’s light for at least an hour

·      pour into glass jar or bottle

·      sip as desired

Your moon water has a short shelf life of about a week. To extend this, you can keep it in the fridge (lasts about 10 days), and/or use distilled water (lasts about 2 weeks in the fridge). If you use distilled water, please take only very tiny sips, as distilled water can leach precious minerals from your body.

While researching the folklore of the full moon’s 10 days, I found detailed descriptions and what was suggested for each day. Deeply tied to agriculture and the ritualistic celebration of planting, growing and harvesting, most ancient lunar wisdom was often meant for the farmer, and those working with plants and plant spirits, as it was (and still is) thought that plants do all of their growing during the night by the light of the moon. I’ve adapted this research to express less farming guidance and more of the Blue Moon’s wisdom and guidance, and I am so happy to share it with you!

First Day of the Blue/Full Moon: July 31, 2015
This day is an extremely favorable and fortunate time to plant seeds for any new project and to make potent wishes for success, increase and growth. Traditionally, this was considered a lucky day for babies to be born; as it was said they will lead long and charmed lives, and that they will have all that they need in life. That being said, it is also an excellent day for you, your projects and your visions to be ‘born’ and even to be re-born into the world, as you may become re-inspired to resurrect old ideas and give them new life.

Second Day of the Blue/Full Moon: August 1, 2015
This is a very special day, with an essence and vibration for thriving, flourishing, blossoming, prospering, succeeding and growing on all levels. It is an exceptionally auspicious day for financial wellbeing, activating wealth and creating prosperity.

Third Day of the Blue/Full Moon: August 2, 2015
This day brings much synchronicity, coincidence, correlation and connection. Much is revealed to you today, and you will be ‘in the know’.

Fourth Day of the Blue/Full Moon: August 3, 2015
This is an excellent day for building, creating, transforming and beautifying. Think in terms of laying the foundation for your projects—both external and internal, physical and emotional, spiritual and earthly.

Fifth Day of the Blue/Full Moon: August 4, 2015
This day is the very best for conceiving new ideas, making new plans and starting new ventures. It is a day that is filled with promise and anything started on this day has the potential for great success.

Sixth Day of the Blue/Full Moon: August 5, 2015
Today, focus on deep meditations, prayer, invocation and soul searching. Turn your attentions inward, practice self-counsel and begin inner healing work. It is a wonderful day to indulge, pamper and take good care of yourself.

Seventh Day of the Blue/Full Moon: August 6, 2015
This is a day for opportunity and fulfillment in the areas of love, romance and success. Those who are single may meet beloveds on this day. Those already in relationships may find their connections deepening.

Eighth Day of the Blue/Full Moon: August 7, 2015
You may find that you are especially sensitive today, and your energy may feel depleted, or low. Today it is time for replenishment, renewal and strengthening for your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Ninth Day of the Blue/Full Moon: August  8, 2015
Traditionally, this day reports feelings of unsettledness, unpredictability, variableness and irregularity…hang in there, as this is really just transformation and your will make it through by staying grounded and focused.

Tenth Day of the Blue/Full Moon: August  9, 2015
Today you may feel a bit on edge—so much has put into play and now you are eager to see it manifest. Still your energy, as today is a day to be patient and not rush into anything, or do anything in a hurry. Feelings of urgency may wash over you, so bring your attention to your body, connect to the earth—and to the moon, and breathe.

As always, I am wishing you Goddess blessings and lunar light!
